Director Manifesto Implementation Unit at the Office of the President Willis Bashaasha has urged the people of Karamoja Sub-Region to intensify commercial agriculture for food and financial security.
This was during the unit monitoring tour at Nakapiripirit settlement based development initiative farm.
Nakapiripirit Settlement based development initiative farm is among the few government aided programs in Karamoja Sub-region.
The settlement project in Kakamongole sub-county is on 700 hectares with 300 hectares of crop mainly sorghum, Irish potatoes, cabbages and maize.
It addresses food insecurity while targeting improved household income and better nutrition.
Since its inception in 2017, the project has benefitted more than 5000 residents.
If well implemented, the project will provide raw materials and also help government to address climate change.
The overall mandate of the Manifesto Implementation Unit is to monitor the progress of implementation of the manifesto commitments and advise accordingly.
