ARUA CITY. After decades of nonexistence, Arua City council has revived the then Arua municipal Council Football Club to compete in the coming regional league.
Arua city FC is a component of Arua City sports Club that incorporates other sports desciplines including athletics, netball, volleyball, among others for both men and women.
Before being launched as Arua city FC management of Arua city council earlier this year bought Diamond FC that has then been changed to Arua city council Football Club.
During the launch, interim lord mayor of Arua city council, Alhaji Isa Kato explained that the club collapsed in late 1990s because of the Lord Resistance Army (LRA) who made it difficult for the players to traverse the country while playing in the super league.

He disclosed that the main objectives of reviving the club is to influence both personal and community development of youths, many of whom are either unemployed or have resorted to drug addiction.

Chief Executive Officer of the club, Ongua Jamal said the club has finalized processes of transferring the club’s name for Diamond FC to Arua city FC, making it to be legally considered by Federation of Uganda Football Association FUFA.

However, identifying a home ground for the club and nick-name is still a matter of discussion as Arua Hill Football Club, another team within Arua Central division is also eyeing on the upcoming Arua Hill stadium as its home ground and has the same Nick-name, “The Leopards”
FUFA delegate from West Nile region, Mike Leti who witnessed the launch noted that FUFA will be able to guide the two teams in case there will be confusions in the process of identifying home grounds and Nick-names.
