Government has confirmed that Uganda’s Deputy Government Spokesperson, Col. (Rtd) Shaban Bantariza has succumbed to covid-19.
Col. Bantariza who had been hospitalized for a short period was pronounced dead at Mulago National Referral hospital in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. David Muhoozi and government spokesperson, Ofwono Opondo, have both confirmed the cause of the Colonel’s death.
Sections of the public have paid tribute to the fallen deputy government spokesperson, Col. (Rtd) Shaban Bantariza, describing him as hardworking and dedicated person.
Others say he was an approachable, eloquent person.
Col Bantariza became famous while he was spokesperson for the mighty Uganda Peoples Defense forces from 2002 to 2005, which he is remembered for.
He is believed to be one of the longest serving spokespersons of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces, who cherished peace and denounced lawlessness.
These are virtues that he has unfortunately taken with him to eternity.

A cross section of the populace in Northern Uganda is mourning the passing away of the Deputy Government spokesperson, Col. (Rtd) Shaban Bantariza who passed away in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The late Bantariza became popular, especially in Gulu, where he contributed in the struggle to defeat Joseph Kony and his rebel group, the Lord’s Resistance Army- LRA, when he served as the 4th Division Field Public Communications Officer.
