Government has re-opened Lake Kyoga after one and a half years of closure due to illegal fishing methods.
State minister for Fisheries Allen Adoa says, government has verified lake kyoga activities and approved it to resume with new orders to be followed by fisher folk.
The opening up of Lake Kyoga started at Kawongo landing has excited communities living and working along the area.
State minister for Fisheries Allen Adoa noted that the re-opening of the lake will benefit low income earners.
She cautioned the wealthy fishermen against grab business from the poor who cannot afford the price of the 28 inch boat recommended for fishing.
The Kayunga District Legislator “Aidah Nantaba Woman MP Kayunga” said many communities were affected by the COVID-19 lockdown period.
The communities sighed relief at the re-opening of the lake as it marked a start of fresh business.
After the closure of business, many people left the landing, while others reverted to agriculture for survival.
