Communities of Ddewe, Kajjansi Town Council in WakisoDistrict have received an assortment of equipment for use in uprooting Water Hyacinth which is spreading fast along several landing sites in that part of Lake Victoria.
The hand tools are from the Directorate of Fisheries Resources in the Ministry of Agriculture has donated an assortment of equipment.
These donated items include, units of Wheel Barrows, pairs of Gum boots, Hand gloves, forked hoes, Frugal Spades and life Jackets among otherskick starts the process of removing the deadly weeds that is slowly destroying aquatic life at several landing sites.
The Principal Fisheries Officer, Valentino Bakunda says the methodology of removing the weeds was agreed upon between Fisheries resources and the affected community.
TheOfficials say the Directorate is stepping up intervention to ensure that the weed does not spread further to suffocates Aquatic life and disrupt smooth operations offishing activities.
The Community Members through Chairman Denis Mbona reaffirmed the commitment to start removing the weed as they do to other social responsibilities in the Community.
The Kariba Weed easily decomposes and completely driesup once its denied water as it’s seen in Lutembe beach.
