With a few months left to the completion of the 2016-2021 Manifesto, the manifesto implementation unit of state house has reported progress in many sectors.
Benard Yiga analyzed the road infrastructure from Karamoja and Sebei sub regions.
Infrastructure development has been part of president Museveni’s priorities including his current 2016-21 manifesto
While presenting on the sectors performance as per the NRM 2016-2021 Manifesto the Minister of Works and Transport Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala said his ministry intends to focus on the road sector targets in the last leg of Manifesto implementation, whose performance stands at 78 percent.
Part of the sectors’ achievements is the delivery of 175 km Soroti-Moroto road. The Shs398 billion three-year’ project by China Communication Construction Company Limited (CCCC), commenced in November 2016 and is at 99% completion rate with about 4kms left connecting to Soroti town.
The new road is facilitating trade among the Karamojong, Teso and Bugisu regions.
Mr. Tonny Mulambe is a Senior Assistant Secretary in the Manifesto Implementation Unit that monitors the progress of implementation of the manifesto commitments.
Residents in Moroto town believe the road infrastructure is a big factor to their anticipated city status come 2023, but say more needs to be done.
The completed roads are most likely to reduce rural urban migration. So far 20kms of the 150km Kapchorwa-Suam road that links Uganda to Kenya have been tarmacked with 73 kilometers on the Ugandan side.
