The ministry of Relief, disaster preparedness and refugees is seeking Shs. 106 billion to rescue people being affected by the torrential rains landslides since the month of April.
While addressing the media, Minister Hilary Onek says 300,000 homes have been displaced and over one million people directly affected hence the call for expeditious response.
Torrential rains have exposed different communities in Uganda to disasters like floods, land and mud slides, water logging, and disease outbreak.

Minister for relief, disaster preparedness and refugees Eng. Hilary Onek says the ministry is constrained with existing meagre resources towards response. According to Eng. Onek the ministry so far has spent Shs. 40 billion since the month of April and now is seeking for Shs. 66 billion.
All the measures being implemented are for short run and the ministry is calling for a policy restructuring land ownership and resettlement strategy.
The displaced people are being sheltered in schools buildings and the rescue team is worried of their future when schools reopen.
Meanwhile, the ministry will securitize licenses of NGOs working in different refugee settlements.
