A section of members of Parliament have asked Uganda Prisons to increase the bounty put on the escapee prisoners and recovery of guns as a motivational factor.
This follows the prison break that occurred in Moroto in Karamoja sub region.
A section of legislators have also faulted the security for failure to get information on the planned prison break
Early this month over 200 prisoners escaped from Moroto prison with a number of guns.
The prison break left at least one soldier dead
Although prisons successfully recovered some guns and subdued some prisoners, the biggest number of prisoners still remains missing.
While presenting a preliminary report on the prison break, deputy attorney general in his report highlighted a number of factors that led to the prison break
Notwithstanding the fear of Covid-19, factors like overwhelming numbers of prisoners over that of security, delayed case hearing and long remand periods.
Members poked holes in the report demanding an explanation on an invisible hand in the escape
Members also demanded a full report on investigation and disarmament of karamojongs.
Although prisons issued a bounty on the prisoners and the guns, members want prisons to increase the bounty to motivate people in handing in the prisoners
Deputy attorney general has however informed the house that investigations are still on going to.
Speaker of Parliament has however vowed to engage the president over the matter.
