Protesters marched near the White House on Thursday, the final night of the Republican National Convention (RNC), to express their anger over the recent shooting of a black man and other issues that have divided American society.
The protest took place at the “Black Lives Matter Plaza”, which was named amid the protests caused by the death of George Floyd by a white police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota some three months ago.
Now, demonstrators have taken to the streets to protest the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. A video that surfaced on Sunday showed the 29-year-old attempting to get into a vehicle through the driver’s side as police officers followed him with their guns drawn.
As he does so, he is grabbed by one police officer and shot seven times in the back at close range. According to Blake’s father, he is now paralyzed from the waist down after the shooting.
The protest did turn physical at time as demonstrators clashed with the police. However, they made themselves heard as U.S. President Donald Trump delivered his speech at the Republican National Convention to accept the nomination to run for a second term in office.
“Honestly, it’s upsetting that a lot of people are peacefully protesting and the police officers actually come out and agitate people.
