Parliamentary nominations also took place in Sheema district. Take a watch.
Sheema district has seen most of its popular MP contestants and flag bearers being nominated on the first day to run in the 2021 general elections.
Among them were Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye who has shocked the district after being nominated as an independent candidate to run against NRM’s Dickson Kateshumbwa, and Virginia plan Mugyenyi of FDC.
Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye who also happens to be the Sheema district NRM chairman, was recently defeated by Dicksons Kateshumbwa in NRM primaries, but says the irregularities encountered on the polling day couldn’t allow him to sit back and see his supporters join opposition.
Justice Minister, Hon Ephraim Kamuntu, hit back at him, saying this action is against the party constitution.
The coming back of Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye into this election means Sheema municipality will have a heated election in which each of the candidates is vowing to use all possible means to take win.
Others nominated Thursday include former WMP for Sheema district, Rosemary Nyakikongoro who is battling the incumbent, Jacklet Atuhaire. The latter hasn’t been nominated following the mismatch of her names with those of the electoral commission.
The main theme on the minds of these contestants is to bring back sanity and unity in Sheema district which had been eroded by religious differences.
In sheema north, the incumbent, Hon Kibaaju Naome, is in a battle with FDC’s and former Mitooma RDC, Guma Nuwagama.
In sheema south, the minister for justice, Hon Ephraim Kamuntu, will tussle it against former NRM party election commission chairman, Prof. Elijah Mushemeza. Open campaigns, processions and rallies have also been barred in the district.
