Uganda’s locally manufactured products have improved competitiveness and thus creating easy access to the export market.
This is according to Uganda National Bureau of Standard’s annual performance report for the financial year 2019/2020.
During the financial year 2019/2020, UNBS undertook product certification and management systems certification to improve the quality of locally manufactured products to enable them access regional and international markets.
The standards body also undertook market surveillance inspections to ensure quality products on the market.
However, there are still substandard and fake products on the market.
Products that do not comply include cosmetics and body care products, beverages, food stuffs and building materials.
At least 232 metric tons of substandard goods worth 2.5 billion shillings were destroyed in the year under review.
