UNICEF FOCUSES ON FULFILLING RIGHTS OF CHILDREN

Civil society organisations want government to strengthen the implementation of the existing legislation aimed at protecting the rights of children.
According to civil society, the rights of children are being violated while others are missing out on education which is their fundamental right.
As Uganda grapples with effects of COVID-19 pandemic, one area that has been hit hard is the education sector. According to Shadrack Omol, the UNICEF representative to Uganda, Covid 19 has affected over 15million children in the country with devastating consequences. He calls upon government, stakeholders and businesses to fulfil the rights of children.
As schools are scheduled to fully reopen by early 2021, everyone is being called upon to take a responsibility and do more to ensure that all children have equal access to quality leaning.
School-going children, who have actually felt the full brunt of the pandemic, appreciate Ministry of education for the E-learning initiative, but also express their challenges during the school lockdown.
The deputy director, private sector foundation- Uganda, Francis Kisirinya, says they are working on an advocacy learning provision. He calls upon all stakeholders to create learning innovations that will help the education sector.
The coronavirus pandemic has laid bare the deep inequalities in societies that leave some children at far greater risk than others, with millions of children missing out on basic health care and education.
This year’s world children’s day took place under different circumstances due to the coronavirus pandemic.
