Police in Iganga used teargas andfired bullets in air to disperse a crowd during an election for NRM LC 3 Chairpersons and their Councilors who failed to abide by the COVID-19 Standard Operation Procedures.
During the commotion, many people were injuredand lost their personal properties including phones.
Majority of voters in Iganga district who moved to polling stations to elect their favorite candidates for LC 3 flag bearer positions were disappointed after being informed that the process had already been concluded.
The commotion was caused by rowdy voters who arrived at different polling stations but were told the voting process has ended at 8am
The Regional Police Commander Anatoli Katungwesi T told UBC that police used reasonable force to control the situation.
Iganga Municipality was the most affected area, where people sustained serious injuries.
